FRANKFURT — Volkswagen is accelerating plans to launch a complete-electrical small auto that will be positioned below its ID3 compact hatchback.
The entry-stage EV will substitute the Up minicar and most likely the Polo, corporation resources informed Automotive News Europe.
The car will be centered on VW’s MEB system like the ID3. It will start at around 20,000 euros ($23,840). It could be named the ID2 with a lesser edition referred to as the ID1, German push stories reported.
VW has established up a Tiny BEV (Battery Electric powered Automobile) venture group to get the job done on the Polo-sized product, which would go on sale in 2023 at the earliest.
To conserve expenses the EV could use far more cost-effective, fewer electrical power dense lithium iron phosphate cells.
“The electrical variation of the Golfing had just a 36 kilowatt-hour battery, and considering the fact that the modest electric car or truck is primarily for urban driving with a lot more confined ranges, I could imagine a related measurement battery would be sufficient,” a VW source claimed.
VW has not explained what the auto might appear like, when it could be introduced or in which it may be crafted.
