Listed for $16.5 million, this home sits in the Volk Estates neighborhood on nearly an acre of property. The home was built in 1959, but the sellers completely restored the home in 2012.

At 14,181 square feet, the spacious home has six bedrooms, six bathrooms and four half-bathrooms. Listing agent Alex Perry describes the home’s style on the listing as a “Connecticut Country Estate” with its brick walls, window shutters and columns on the exterior. It has four floors, one of which is a basement, and an elevator that accesses each one.

Perry said it’s rare to find such an expansive property in the area. Despite the fact that the home sits in a popular neighborhood, he said it feels private with how the landscaping was designed.

He noted that the home’s expansive floor plan has a meticulous and thought-out design.

“There are a lot of rooms, but each room has a purpose,” Perry said.

Design details throughout the home were imported from around the world during the recent renovation. There’s a mantle that once belonged to William Randolph Hearst, of newspaper and business fame, and a bar made of material from what was said to be the bed of the last king of Poland, according to information provided by the agent. Even the floors were imported from historic estates in France and Austria.

Custom-carved limestone walls adorn the walls of the foyer. The adjacent living room boasts an abundance of detail work in the design, from the custom wood paneling to the antique fireplace that once belonged to Hearst. Past the entry, the eye is drawn upward to the dome of the three-story rotunda, which is made of stained glass.

A garden room sits nearby, with custom hand-painted Gracie wallpaper, marble floors and views of the outside rose garden. A family room and lounge sit on the first level, as well.

One bedroom sits on the first floor, along with other living rooms, a solarium, an office, a gallery, a dining room, a screened-in porch, a library and the kitchen. There’s also a laundry room, butler’s pantry and a catering kitchen for entertaining.

Four bedrooms, ncluding the primary suite are found on the second floor, and each have en suite bathrooms. The second floor also houses a library (which the sellers have designated as a “children’s library”), an exercise room, a theater room and a storage room.

The primary suite has its own separate sitting room, in addition to the bedroom and bathroom. The sitting room features a marble-adorned coffee bar and has access to a balcony. The bedroom is set next to the sitting room and has vaulted ceilings, bay windows, a fireplace and access to a balcony.

The primary bathroom has a separate dressing area, walk-in closets, dual vanities, a large shower and bathtub. An exercise room, which is concealed by hidden doors within the primary suite, can be converted into a sixth bedroom, Perry said.

The third floor of the home has another lounge that includes a small kitchen with a microwave, fridge, freezer and sink. There’s also a half-bathroom, two playrooms and a reading nook on that level.

Outside, the home features manicured gardens, patios and plenty of green space.
