Dozens of Taliban fighters have been killed in fierce overnight battling between Afghan forces and militants who attacked numerous checkpoints in the insurgent bastion of Kandahar, officers said Sunday.
Taliban militants attacked checkpoints in 5 districts bordering the metropolis of Kandahar, which Afghan forces countered with significant air and floor assaults, the ministry of defence said in a assertion.
“The protection forces repulsed the assault, killing 51 terrorists and wounding nine,” the ministry stated, without presenting specifics of any casualties between authorities forces.
The preventing lasted for several hrs as a result of the night time, marked with steady gun battles and major bombardments, an AFP correspondent described from Kandahar.
