Sarah Cole’s clients tasked her with overhauling their teenage son’s bedroom so that it would endure perfectly right after he leaves the nest. “It was genuinely vital that their son enjoy the space now and when he receives more mature,” she states. The principal of Sarah C. Interiors took cues from the teen’s style for simplicity and affinity for industrial features, even though looking at the fashion and palette in other places in the Newton property. She was also cautious not to overlook the home’s classic Victorian character. “We wanted the furnishings structure to accentuate the exceptional architecture, so we nestled the mattress in the curve of the spherical corner versus a backdrop of draperies,” she states.
1. A preppy plaid rug replaced wall-to-wall carpeting when the room’s original large-plank pine flooring were refinished. “The pure wooden displays the age of the home,” Cole claims.
2. Cole chose Visual Comfort flooring lamps from Light-weight New England in Charlestown alternatively of sconces, which would have interrupted the draperies and been far too much from the mattress.
3. Personalized curtains with black grommets soften the home windows driving the linen-upholstered bed. “The consumer did not like the plan of patterned draperies or trim, so very simple panels built sense,” Cole claims.
4. A chandelier with adjustable arms by Barn Light Electrical Enterprise adds an industrial touch to the major of the place. It also echoes the steel sculptures that the teen would make in his spare time.
5. Sisal wallpaper by Thibaut from The Martin Group in the Boston Layout Centre injects texture. “Navy paint would have felt as well flat in opposition to the plain mattress and drapery,” Cole states.
6. Prompted by a request to incorporate reclaimed wood, Cole commissioned a reclaimed-wooden and raw metal desk from Combine 9 as a result of CustomMade.
